Physical Therapy Services
Physical therapy is often part of an overall treatment plan. Physical therapy works to restore function, movement, and quality of life for our patients. Some of our patients need physical therapy after a car accident, sports injury, or other types of trauma. Other patients are prescribed physical therapy with the goal of preventing disability or surgery.
We recommend a full physical first to diagnose the extent of your injuries and create a comprehensive plan to restore function and quality of life. If you feel you may need physical therapy or are looking for a provider, come see AIS to get you started on your recovery plan. We work with patients throughout the communities of Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa, West Phoenix, Tempe, and Prescott.
Patients often get confused between physical therapy and occupational therapy. These two types of therapies are not the same or interchangeable. While physical therapy focuses on movement, occupational therapy focuses on gross motor function and the connection between motor and cognitive skills. Think of physical therapy as healing the body and occupational therapy teaching the body new skills to move because of a current disability or in response to a new one.
The need for occupational therapy is best diagnosed by a doctor. Problems such as learning to use zippers or self-care with limited motion may require occupational therapy and be part of overall wellness goals.
An accident at any speed can cause life-long injuries. Your body, especially your neck, was not designed to move in a sudden motion forward or sideways. Even with a headrest, your head will experience a recoil that stresses your neck with excessive force. Your neck may feel sore the next day and then you may notice having trouble holding your head up. These are signs you need whiplash treatment right away.
AIS will create a comprehensive diagnostic plan that includes finding the extent of your injuries. Many parts of you neck and upper body can be damaged from whiplash including joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. Whiplash can even cause head and brain injuries.
